If you have more than one map, you may be able to see the dashed outlines of other maps on the map you have opened. Maybe you have opened a large-scale map, and a smaller scale map of the whole area is available, in which case the outline of the smaller scale map may be off-screen. To get a better view of surrounding maps, you can zoom out all the way to see an area on the screen larger than the current map.
The outline of maps that are available but not yet loaded are shown with dashed lines. Maps that have already been loaded (which means they will open much more quickly) are shown by solid lines. Different types of map are shown with different colors: marine charts in violet, aerial photos in blue and topo maps in green.
The easiest way to change maps is to point at a location where the other map is available and right-click on the mouse. A menu appears containing the commands: “Same scale”, “In to larger scale” and “Out to smaller scale”. The larger scale and smaller scale commands select the next available map at the cursor position.
If you double-click at a location outside the boundary of the displayed map, the map covering that location having the scale closest to the current map is opened. The “Same scale” command in the pop-up menu has the same effect. This is the best way to open an adjoining map.
You can also select the “Maps at cursor…” command from the pop-up menu to present the Map List dialog, with a list of the available maps sorted into the order of their scale.
To open a map at a different location, select the Map / Map List command from the main menu (or click on the Map toolbar button). The Map List dialog is shown containing all known maps. Double-click on the map you want to open.
