Digital Map Store

Our Digital Map Store is the simplest and quickest way to browse, buy and download your maps. Maps and charts for many parts of the world are available now, and more are continually being added. It is a great way to start or add to your Memory-Map collection.

To get started, open a suitable basemap for your area. A selection of small-scale maps is included with the application.

Zoom-in your area of interest on the basemap, and click the Digital Map Store button on the toolbar.

The list initially only shows the maps that cover the area you were viewing in the main map window. This allows you to easily find maps that cover a specific area of interest. If you want to search for maps elsewhere, click Maps Everywhere, and you can then enter a keyword to search for a place. For example, if you enter the keyword "London", it will show a list of maps covering London, Ontario as well as London, UK. You can enter a placename, or the name of a mountain, park, etc that you want to explore.

If you have previously purchased a map and would like to reload it, click the Sign In button and login to your account. Then click My Online Maps. This shows only the maps that are available in your account and free basemaps.

Select the map you wish to view and click Continue... to open the map.

The DMS Folder button allows you to select the location on your system where the download maps are stored.

Each map has a license status icon, as follows:

The map is free (no license management or sign-in)

The map is already activated on this computer

The map has not been activated on this computer (you may have activation rights in your account, or you may have to make a purchase)

The map has a temporary evaluation license on this computer

A top-up style DMS map that has some chunks activated

A package (ie, a predefined bundle of maps downloaded together)

Buying Maps

There are several kinds of maps in the Digital Map Store. Some are free, and can be used without buying a license. Most of the maps require a single purchase to obtain a license to the whole map. Other maps, you can purchase a smaller area, and later add to it with a "Top-Up" package. If you don't have a license to the map, you may still view it in the software, but the image is blurry and degraded.

Whatever kind of map you have, clicking the Show Pice / Buy button in the License Activation dialog will take you to a web page that presents all the purchase options for that kind of map. Depending on the map, you may have the option of a $25 "top-up", or you might want to go for a larger package (eg, all 50 US States!). When you have completed your online purchase, click OK in the software, and the license is automatically set up on your computer.

In some areas, you may also buy a Digital Map Store maps in a retail package. In this case, you should register the serial number printed in the package, instead of clicking the Buy button.

Automatic Download

If you have a fast internet connection, you can click Map -> Digital Map Store -> Automatic Download. When this is enabled, the map data is automatically downloaded on the fly as you scroll and zoom around the map.

The automatic download only fetches enough data to view at the present zoom level. If you are later disconnected from the internet, and you zoom in further, the image may have a blurry appearance. Because of this, we recommend you use the Digital Map Store to download the full detail for your area of interest before you head out.

3D Elevation Data and Index

Elevation data and the placename index data are automatically downloaded with the map, when they are first used.

Mobile Device

If you are out on a hike, and you decide to explore a bit further off the beaten path, you can use the Digital Map Store on your mobile phone to download the additional detailed maps you need. This works exactly the same way as on the PC.
