Activating the Software License

Certain features of this software, and some maps, require online activation.

The first time you use a map or software feature, you are prompted to activate the resource, which are managed with an online account, with a user name and password. If you don't already have a license, you can get a time-limited demo of most maps and features before you purchase.

At any time, you may see the status of all controlled resources by clicking the Help > License Management... menu command.

Note: each software package includes several resources that need to be activated online. Before you leave home, go to the Help > License Management... dialog, and ensure that you have activated all the maps and software features you need on your expedition.

Once a map or feature is activated, the key is stored on your computer and you don't need to be online to use it.

Activation is accomplished by completing three stages:

  1. Create an account.

Your Memory-Map account is used to manage your all your licenses. When you are installing additional maps or software, and when your are installing on a different PC or Mobile Device, you must sign in to the same account. Do not create more than one account.

You can choose any alpha-numeric combination you like for your user name and password. All spaces and punctuation are ignored, and only the first 16 letters or digits are used. The case of the letters is also ignored.

You must enter a valid email address. This is used to confirm your registration, and is used to recover your account name and password if you forget them.

If you have forgotten your user name or password, you can recover them by clicking here. Do not create more than one account!

  2. Give your computer a name.

You may install the software and map data (depending on the publisher) on more than one computer, and onto more than one mobile device. You may also (if the publisher allows it) move the license from one machine or device to another. To manage all these licenses, it helps if you give each computer or mobile device a name you can recognize.

  3. Access Purchased Maps

  1. Activate the resources you want to use.

Once you have signed in to your account, the resources are activated automatically when they are first used. If you have a new serial number (eg, from a gift certificate or from a new retail package) you can click the button to register it. Serial numbers are not used for a normal Digital Map Store purchase.

FAQ: Why is it asking me to activate / purchase a map that was working fine?

The most likely answer is that you have opened a different edition of the map. Use the Digital Map Store, My Online Maps option to find the correct maps.

If you are using a map published before 2007, newer versions of the software require purchase of a Classic Map license to use this version of the PC Software.
