Getting Started

When you first run the application, it uses the phone's Location service to identify the best available free topo map for your location. You must enable the location service and provide a connection to the internet to allow the application to download the basemap.

To obtain NOAA Nautical charts, tap the Maps button, then Digital Map Store. Tap Map Types, enable the Nautical type and disable Topo maps.

When the map is displayed, you can scroll and zoom. Data is automatically downloaded as you move about the map.

The maps in Memory-Map are raster images, which means the level of detail in each map is fixed. If you want to see more detail, you have to zoom in to a different map.

The Android user interface makes use of the Menu and Back buttons, which are dedicated buttons on some Android devices, or soft buttons at the bottom or top-right of the screen. It depends on the Android OS version and whether you have a tablet or a phone. If you don't see a command or option on-screen, or if you seem to be stuck in a dead-end, don't forget to try these buttons.

On devices that don't have a dedicated Menu button, various menu commands appear in a toolbar at the top of the screen. This is automatically hidden after a few seconds of inactivity, in order to display the maximum view of the map. If you prefer to keep the toolbar and system buttons on the screen all the time, go to Settings, General Settings and de-select "Full Screen Mode".

The app provides several methods of zooming:

If your device has another button, either a programmable app launch button or a dedicated camera button, this can be used to lock the GPS location at the center of the screen. Pressing and holding this button creates a Mark at the current GPS location.

If you wish to use the volume and camera buttons for their system default purpose, press Menu, Settings, General Settings, and disable "Use Volume buttons...".
